My name is Chris Green and I love to share stories from British history. Not just because they are interesting but because, good or bad, they have shaped the world we live in today.
History should not be stuffy or a long list of dates or kings & queens.
So rather than lectures or UA-cam animations, I tell stories that bring the past to life.
My aim is to be chat as if I were having a coffee or meal with you. Jean in Maryland, USA recently wrote: "Chris, is the history teacher I wish I had at school!"
Just for the record, I do have a history degree in Medieval & Modern history from the University of Birmingham.

Absolutely enjoyed video lectures on Operation Postmaster. I was, pardon the pun, glued to my seat. One may call me biased but I would prefer a film closer to the actual operation. God bless you and family Sir!

3,000 female SOE agents rarely referred to? I take it he never watched Odette or Carve her Name with Pride? Those two films are ENTIRELY about female SOE agents. Odette Churchill (no relation) was captured, tortured, but survived, living until 1995. Violet Szabo was captured and executed at Ravensbruck concentration camp, Feb 5th, 1945. Those are two excellent films, although if people aren't watching them, perhaps they should be remade?

When I was working in Montauk NY, a gentleman who was from The Isle of Gurney and a former Royal Navy veteran used to give me copies of Royal Navy News. As a history buff the stories in those issues were fantastic. He was on a Coravett or sub chaser in WW2, he always said the quote " Ship Shape and Bristol Fashion ". A good freind he was to a young man.

Hi Chris, The “Great Siege” of Gibraltar 🇬🇮 started on the 24/June/1779 as a side consequence of the American War of Independence (1775-83) & this Spanish-French initiated siege would only be lifted by naval & military relief force led by the then recent victor of the Battle of the Saintes (1782) in the Caribbean, Admiral, Sir George Rodney delivering reinforcements & much needed support & supplies to the beleaguered British 🇬🇧 garrison of valiant soldiers & local inhabitants of the “Rock” then arriving on the 07/February/1783!

I'm sorry but I tried to watch the film, which is the subject of this video. I had really been looking forward to. I thought it was terrible and stopped watching partway through. More's the pity that it was based on a real story and real people. It all seemed so fake and cartoonish. The Germans seemed to straight out of a comic book. Another lost opportunity. I thought this video was great. Thank you.

Canada won the war because it survived and became an independent state by 1867. US designs on Canada didn't disappear, but were never seriously entertained as a matter of US policy. However, Canada's "Defense Scheme No.1" was, until 1931, a plan for the defense of Canada from an American invasion.

That was definitely the kind of out of the box thinking that Churchill deelighted over! The crazier the better for him! Every time I think of Britain in the 2nd World War, I shudder to think of how long Britain would have lasted under Lord Halifox! YIKES!

Just a small point but, for the sake of accuracy, the ship used by March Phillips and Co was called "Maid Honour" not "Maid of Honour". I believe she was a Brixham trawler. At this point Phillips group was called Maid Honour Force and later became the Small Scale Raiding Force.

Until I looked it up I thought they were telling the story of the raid on Portuguese Goa, just really badly. It is such an interesting story although Hollywood got that one wrong too with Rodger Moore. I think if they just stuck to the story, these raids would make much better stories.

Hello Chris. I finished Happy Odyssey, a biography of Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart, from your live show from two weeks ago. What a unique individual. It is interesting that you mentioned Tristan da Cunha. Years ago I was coming out of the Commissary Store on base and met a woman with the cutest little boy. I asked his name and was told Tristan. I said, "As in Tristan do Cunha?" She gaped at me and said, "You've heard of it?" "Sure, it's an island in the South Atlantic." "I was born there." You never know who you're going to meet in the Navy or where they are from.
